About Guro Dan.

Guro Amerson started training martial arts in 1991 when he began studying Taekwondo. He earned his first black belt in Taekwondo in 1995 at the age of 16. As he continued training, he was introduced to Filipino martial arts by Datu Eric Bullock while he studied under him and Master Melody Clark at United Martial Arts Center in the early 2000s. UMAC’s curriculum integrated Filipino martial arts with other styles, a model that he would use later.

During the 2000s, Guro Amerson trained at various schools continuing to study Filipino martial arts with Datu Bullock as well as earning a 4^th Dan in Taekwondo and the title of Taekwondo Master.

When Guro Amerson opened Amerson’s Taekwondo in late 2014, he integrated Filipino martial arts with his Taekwondo curriculum requiring all students to learn basic striking, blocking, and disarms with cane and knife to advance in rank. During this time, he began to work with Tuhon Harold Evans who had founded Black Tiger Kali.

In 2022 after 20 years of training in the Filipino martial arts, he was awarded the rank of Guro in Black Tiger Kali by Tuhon Harold Evans. In 2024, he was awarded the rank of Lakan in Modern Arnis at the Remy Presas Hall of Flame Foundation Camp.

Over the past few years, he has shared his knowledge of Filipino martial arts at the 2023 Unity Seminar, 2024 Hall of Flame Foundation Camp, and at KICKS Taekwondo where he taught a Combatives and Self-Defence Course centered around Black Tiger Kali. Guro Amerson continues to train and teach in Raleigh, NC where he is the area representative of Black Tiger Kali.
